With involvement open to everybody from pupils to parents/carers, staff to members of the local community, the Gardening Clubs’ vegetable patch has become the Worlaby Academy Community Allotment.
As well as the raised beds, the school is lucky enough to have a polytunnel, a willow house structure which the children love and a sheltered inner courtyard which is home to a herb bed and deep wooden planters in which the children grow beans, peas and a grape vine.
In 2010, the school received an ‘Awards For All’ grant that enabled them to purchase, amongst other things, a polytunnel, shed, raised beds and water butts, to assist with the development of the vegetable garden. We have also been able to purchase insect/pest proof netting.
They also developed a sail covered seating which not only provides shade and shelter from the weather for parents but also a valuable outdoor classroom space for the school. Read more here
